Improving health through education and prevention

I am a dedicated general practitioner practising out of Ochre Medical Centre - Wyalla, in Toowoomba. I practice with an emphasis on educating patients and empowering them to improve their health through healthy lifestyle changes. Prevention is a key part of my general practice, with a special interest in skin cancer and Women's health. That being said, I enjoy treating the whole family.

I am proud to have been born and raised in South Africa, where I did my undergraduate degree at the University of Pretoria. I am fluent in English and Afrikaans. I moved to Australia in 2020 and have worked in a combination of public hospitals and private practices in Melbourne, Hervey Bay, Sunshine Coast, and have now settled in Toowoomba with my young family.

I initially thought I would pursue a career in emergency medicine but soon realised I had a passion for prevention. I love being able to empower my patients and educate them with all the knowledge I have gathered over the years.

My years in South Africa as a very hands-on doctor as well as my emergency medicine experience has afforded me a lot of minor surgical experience which has cultivated my interest in skin cancer detection and management.

I offer comprehensive skin cancer checks with any concerning lesions usually biopsied on the day of the check. Any cancerous lesions are then planned for excision or referred to a specialist, if cosmetics is of concern.

I believe we should all be taking responsibility for our health and the choices we make - but we need the knowledge to do so. Contraception is close to my heart, especially when it can aid in improving period concerns, unwanted pregnancies and associated symptoms.

I offer Mirena insertions that are easily accessible with short wait times and competitive pricing as well as consultation on any other contraception options available.

While menopause is something every women experience, it doesn't need to be a time of suffering, and there is so much I can offer in way of education and treatment. I have a tailored Women's Health Assessment that I use to assist with this.

My passion for Women's Health has overflowed into an interest in children's health, which was also sparked by being a mum of 2 small kids myself. To further my education in children’s health I have completed a Graduate Diploma of Child Health through Western Sydney University.

Qualifications:
  • MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery)

  • GDCH (Graduate Diploma of Child Health)

  • Professional Certificate in Skin Cancer management
